Change

Nearly two years later it's finally over! My first full on experience with a presidential election. I know that most of you who know me well are sick of hearing me talk about it so this will be the last you have to hear, but I do have one last thing I want to say about this election. . .

I've flipped and flopped and wrestled with this decision, even though in the end I knew no matter how I voted that McCain was going to get the electoral votes that represented me. Initially I was the biggest Obama supporter you'd ever find, then I wandered over to the McCain camp because I wasn't as big of a fan of some of Obama's plans. In the end I found myself back in the "change" column. I cast my vote yesterday for Barack Obama with some trepidation that I might be making a mistake. But after watching our new president elect speak, and reflecting on the results I'm confident that I did the right thing.

As much as people will tell you that Obama's call for change was just a platitude, and that nothing is really going to change, I can't imagine how anybody could have watched the election results last night and not felt the change and the accomplishment of our nation. We took a huge step forward last night. I felt more proud to be an American last night than any other time I can think of. Whether you're excited about the change, or scared, or a little of both, I find it hard to believe that anybody really doubts that it's actually there. Even though I still have my differences with our new president, and I'm sure that there will be plenty to disagree with, I'm excited for what lays ahead for the United States. Considering the current state of our country that's no small thing.

Above all I'm proud to live in a country that allows any of us to accomplish whatever we put our minds to. Congratulations President Obama, and good luck in the next 4 years.

-Mike

Good call with Obama. Yes, it's too bad that votes for Obama in Utah didn't count but we took care of things for you here in California and luckily California has over ten times Utah's electoral votes! Plus we passed prop 8 so now all our wildest dreams have come true. :)

Yeah, I'm still not so sure about it.

We are OK with the outcome of the election, but what really tickles us is that our son has become a thinker and a writer! While we would still have preferred Romney, the fact that this election got Mike's intellect stimulated is wonderful! In all seriousness, we are hopeful that President Elect Obama will be a great leader. How could any American (Republican or Democrat) hope for anything else?
